Wrist Fracture and DRUJ assessment

Thumb

Patient positioned prone with the arm above the head.

Step 1. Acquire a standard axial dataset and construct a standard coronal reconstruction set.
Step 2. Use standard coronal data set to obtain sagittal reformats through the wrist. Align parallel to the long axis of the distal radius as shown (Fig 1).

DRUJ ASSESSMENT
Patient positioned prone. Arm above head as straight as possible
In all acquisitions: scan both hands at the same time. Make sure both sides are aligned with each other

Step 1. Hands in the neutral position; palms perpendicular to the bed, thumbs up. Acquire an axial data set. (Fig2)
Step 2. Hands in the prone position; palms facing up. Acquire an axial data set. (Fig3)
Step 3. Hands in the supine position; palms perpendicular to the bed, thumbs up (If more comfortable, the patient can also be positioned supine, hands above head). Acquire an axial data set. (Fig4).
